Step 2: The Washing Machine Method (Yes, Really!)
This is the easiest and most effective way to clean most shower curtains — including plastic ones!
You’ll Need:
- Your dirty shower curtain
- 1–2 bath towels (to prevent tearing and help scrub)
- ½ cup of baking soda
- ½ cup of white vinegar
- Mild laundry detergent
How to Do It:
- Remove the curtain from the rings (leave the rings out for now).
- Toss it in the washer with a couple of old towels.
- Add ½ cup baking soda and a small amount of laundry detergent.
- Wash on a gentle cycle with warm water.
- Right before the rinse cycle, add ½ cup white vinegar.
- After the cycle, hang it up immediately to dry — either back in the shower or outside.
Important: Don’t put plastic or vinyl curtains in the dryer — they can melt. Fabric curtains can usually handle low heat, but check the label.
Step 3: No Washing Machine? No Problem. Try This Tub Soak Method
What You’ll Need:
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- A sponge or scrub brush
- Warm water
Instructions:
- Fill your tub or a large basin with warm water and ½ cup vinegar.
- Remove the curtain and soak it for 30 minutes.
- Sprinkle baking soda directly onto any stained or grimy areas.
- Use a sponge to scrub those spots clean.
- Rinse thoroughly and hang to dry.
Bonus Tip: Clean the Shower Curtain Rings Too
They’re often overlooked — but they collect grime too! Soak them in warm, soapy water with a little vinegar, then rinse and dry before reattaching them.
