🧠 The Science Behind It
Bread goes stale due to a process called retrogradation, where the starch molecules crystallize and expel moisture. This happens faster at cooler temperatures — like in your fridge.
In short:
❌ Fridge = faster staleness
✅ Room temperature (or freezing) = longer freshness
🥖 So, What’s the Right Way to Store Bread?
✅ For short-term (up to 3-4 days):
- Keep bread at room temperature in a bread box, paper bag, or cloth bag. Avoid plastic if possible — it traps moisture and can lead to mold.

❄️ For long-term (over 4 days):
- Freeze it!
Slice the bread first, then freeze it in a zip-top bag. You can toast slices directly from frozen or let them thaw at room temp. It keeps the flavor and texture intact for weeks. -
