🛒 Why It’s Called “3-Packet” Roast
It’s all about the seasoning! This recipe gets its name (and incredible flavor) from three humble seasoning packets that work together like magic:
- Ranch dressing mix
- Brown gravy mix
- Italian dressing mix
Combined, they create a savory, herby, slightly tangy sauce that cooks low and slow with the beef — resulting in a roast that’s juicy, tender, and downright addictive.
🥄 Ingredients
- 1 (3–4 lb) chuck roast
- 1 packet ranch dressing mix
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 1 packet Italian dressing mix
- 1/2 cup water (or beef broth for extra richness)
- Optional: potatoes, carrots, onions (chunked)
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prep the Crockpot
Place the chuck roast in the bottom of your slow cooker. - Add Seasoning
Sprinkle the three seasoning packets evenly over the top of the roast. - Add Liquid
Pour water or broth around (not directly over) the roast to avoid washing off the seasoning. - Optional Veggies
Add carrots, potatoes, and onions around the roast if you like a full one-pot meal. - Cook Low & Slow
Cover and cook on LOW for 8–9 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the roast is fork-tender. - Shred & Serve
Shred the beef in the juices, stir gently, and serve hot with veggies and a drizzle of that savory gravy.
📝 Tips & Variations
- Want a thicker gravy? Remove roast and veggies, whisk 1 tbsp of cornstarch into the juices, and cook on high until thickened.
- Make it spicy: Add a few pepperoncini peppers for a kick (a twist on Mississippi Pot Roast).
- Low-sodium option: Use low-sodium seasoning packets or broth if needed.
- Leftovers? Use them in sandwiches, wraps, or over mashed potatoes the next day.
🍽 What to Serve With It
- Mashed potatoes or creamy polenta
- Buttered egg noodles or rice
- Roasted green beans or steamed broccoli
- Crusty bread to soak up all that savory sauce
