- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon (for swirl)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan. - Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. - Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract and sour cream. - Combine and Fold
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the diced apples. - Prepare Cinnamon Swirl
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan, sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar over it, then add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the cinnamon sugar. Swirl gently with a knife for a marbled effect. - Bake
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. - Serve
Slice and enjoy as-is or with a light drizzle of glaze or dusting of powdered sugar.
Tips for Perfect Cinnamon Swirl Apple Fritter Bread
- Apple variety: Use firm apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji for a balance of sweetness and tartness.
- Swirl creatively: Don’t overmix the cinnamon sugar — the swirls should be visible for a beautiful marbled effect.
- Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze slices for longer storage.
- Enhance flavor: Add a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans to the swirl for a crunchy texture.
