A Festive Favorite
Cheese balls have been a beloved party staple since the mid-20th century, when hostesses were looking for make-ahead appetizers that could feed a crowd with minimal fuss. Over the years, the humble cheese ball has evolved into something truly elegant, with endless flavor possibilities.
This Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball adds a modern twist to the classic — blending rich cream cheese and sharp cheddar with sweet dried cranberries and toasted pecans. The combination is both festive and flavorful, making it a must-have for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ½ cup dried cranberries, chopped
- ½ cup pecans, toasted and chopped (plus extra for rolling)
- 2 green onions, finely sliced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional for garnish:
- Additional chopped cranberries and parsley for rolling
Instructions
- Mix the cheese base:
In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar until smooth. - Add the flavor:
Stir in dried cranberries, toasted pecans, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until everything is evenly distributed. - Shape the cheese ball:
Scoop the mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap and form it into a ball. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to firm up. - Roll in coating:
Before serving, roll the cheese ball in additional chopped pecans and cranberries (and parsley, if desired) to give it a festive, textured coating. - Serve and enjoy:
Place on a serving plate surrounded by your favorite crackers, pretzels, or sliced apples.
Tips & Variations
- Make it ahead: This cheese ball can be made up to 3 days in advance — just keep it wrapped and refrigerated until serving.
- Switch up the nuts: Try using walnuts, almonds, or pistachios for a slightly different flavor and color.
- Add a little heat: A pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce gives a fun contrast to the sweetness of the cranberries.
