# COVID‑19 Vaccine: Four Years On, List of Persistent Symptoms Grows Longer

Four years since the global rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, health researchers and clinicians continue to monitor **persistent symptoms** that some individuals report following vaccination or infection. While the vast majority of people tolerate the vaccines well and derive major benefits, new studies show a growing list of long-term symptoms that deserve attention.

## What We Know So Far

* A retrospective study of individuals seen at a clinic for possible vaccination-related adverse events found that around 10 symptoms (out of 15 studied) **persisted for six months or more** after vaccination. The most frequent were sensory impairment (28 %), general fatigue (24.8 %), low-grade fever (17.4 %) and headache (17.4 %). ([PMC][1])
* Another study looked at post-COVID infection effects (not specifically vaccine-related) up to four years out: persistent symptoms such as fatigue, impaired memory and other health issues remained in some individuals. ([MDPI][2])
* Meanwhile, research into the vaccines’ effect on “long COVID” (persistent symptoms after infection) suggests the vaccines reduce the likelihood of many symptoms, but do **not eliminate them entirely**. ([cidrap.umn.edu][3])
