Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the Beef
In a skillet, brown the ground beef with garlic, salt, and pepper. Drain excess fat.
  3. Layer the Casserole
In the baking dish, layer half the potatoes, onions, and cooked beef. Pour half of the soup and milk mixture over the layers. Repeat with remaining potatoes, onions, beef, and the rest of the soup mixture. Sprinkle shredded cheese and dot with butter on top.
  4. Bake to Perfection
Cover with foil and bake for 45–50 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly, and potatoes are tender.
  5. Serve and Enjoy
Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Pair with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
